SNEAPers,
We have a 2.5 MeV HVE Van de Graff accelerator, but our acceleration tube is
slighly damaged. It has a gouge in it that is ovular in shape (~1"x.5") and
goes about half of the way into the tube glass, from inside to out. Does
anyone know of anything we can use to repair it with? Somone suggested
using Vinyl Acetate Resin disolved in toluene to repair the damage. Is this
a viable method for the repair? If so does anyone know the name of a
supplier because I am having trouble finding someone to supply the resin
form of vinyl acetate. Does the tube even need to be repaired, it will hold
10^-6 torr for its vacuum, we are just worried that once we put it under
vacuum and 125psi that the tube will break.
Thanks in advance,
Ian Rice
