[Sneap] gold O-rings

The last place I ordered gold gaskets from was Vacumed, Ventura CA, 
1-800-235-3333 several years ago.
You can make them yourself but for UHV applications you need to fuse the 
gold wire and then anneal it carefully.
For stepped flanges getting the size right is critical and you need to make 
the gasket slightly smaller than required and then stretch it very gently 
into place.
For flanges with no step for the gasket, i.e. those with a large smooth 
flat surface, I have used pure aluminum wire (annealed) and just carefully 
laid the ends over each other. When the gasket crushes the wire, the wire 
welds to itself forming a seal at the join, hopefully.
