I wanted to call your attention to the symposium on Particle
Beam-Induced Radiation Effects in Materials, being held at the 2008
TMS Annual Meeting in New Orleans, March 9-13, 2008. Please consider
submitting a talk and paper to this symposium. Details of the
symposium and abstract submission instructions are on the TMS website
at http://cmsplus.tms.org/CMS/CMSPlus.nsf?OpenDatabase. Select the
2008 Annual meeting and then click on the symposium name in the list.
The abstract deadline is July 15, 2007. The scope of the symposium
is as follows:
This symposium covers both low and high energy irradiations from
charged particles ranging from electrons to heavy ions and over the
energy range eV to GeV. Materials of interest include metals,
ceramics, insulators, superconductors and semiconductors. Both
experimental and theoretical studies are solicited.
Specific topics where contributions are encouraged include:
- damage state from charged particle irradiation
- comparisons of damage morphology to that from neutron irradiation
- comparisons of damage morphology among light and heavy ions
and electrons
- defect characterization
- in-situ damage analysis
- dose rate and temperature effects
- application of radiation damage in the fabrication of nanostructures
- modeling of solute and point defect behavior under irradiation
- phase stability and solute segregation
- radiation-enhanced diffusion
- swift heavy ion tracks in insulators
- nanoscale post-irradiation mechanical testing
Proceedings of the symposium will be published in a special issue of
the Journal of Nuclear Materials.
The organizers are Gary S. Was (gsw at umich.edu), Stuart Maloy
(maloy at lanl.gov), Christina Trautmann (C.Trautmann at gsi.de) and Maximo
Victoria (maxvictoria at bluewin.ch).
Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
