[Sneap] plexiglass control rods

Brian,
Like Chris at TUNL we too have joined plexiglass rods that were too
short by machining the ends and pinning the joint. This has worked well
for us.
Also, I have joined plexiglass rods using universal joint couplers. For
example, the foil stripper control rod for our FN accelerator runs
underneath the center of the column from the tank base to near the
terminal, where it makes a significant jog away from the center line to
reach the foil changer. I've used couplers on this rod, and this has
worked well, except that some of the plastic couplers tend to get
brittle in the tank gas over time.
