I put a couple of pictures into a powerpoint so that I could write on them and put arrows and such. You should have a particular torque wrench with a steel ball on the end (see the picture in the powerpoint) and a pillow block to take up space where the torque wrench rests against the end of the column. Loosen the locking bolts, place the ball end of the wrench against the alternator, the cylinder of the wrench against the pillow block, apply pressure until the alternator lifts off the support posts a little bit. You want 200 lbs. on the wrench gage. If you already have good tracking then adjust all posts (the 3/4" flats under the locking bolts) evenly until you get to 200 lbs. Don't forget to retighten the locking bolts when you are done. Call or email me directly if this isn't clear.

Subject: [Sneap] Belt Tension on HVE AN-2500

The host for the 2008 SNEAP annual meeting is the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. The meeting dates are: October: 12 - 17, 2008.
The meeting web link is: http://www-ners.engin.umich.edu/research/Mibl/Sneap/2008.htm

I have an HVE AN-2500 Van de Graaff Accelerator (2.5 MeV) that I am assembling. Can anyone send me some information on how they find the belt tension?

Thanks,

Joshua Peerce

Additionally, thanks to everyone who sent me pictures, they have been very helpful.
