I don't have any experience with converter products, but I've put together machines using single board computers and passive back planes, which can be purchased in a variety of configurations from ISA to PCI express. This is kind of pricy, however. I've been able to get all of my old boards to work with WinXP except one for which no drivers were available (Windows only application). Try:
