Ian,

I've never used such detectors myself, hence I'm not sure whether the Ortec
detectors below are really the ones you are looking for. Anyway, you'll
find Ortec's partially depleted detectors here:

Kind regards,

Dear Sneapers,

We need to source one or more partially depleted charged particle detectors
(preferably 300mm2) with a variable depletion depth. The idea is that by
reducing the bias voltage you can reduce the depletion layer depth, and this
is a nice way of detecting alpha particles (stopped in the depletion layer
of well chosen thickness) without interference from protons (unable to
deposit sufficient energy in the depletion layer to make a pulse that will
interfere with the alphas of interest).

These are usually made in low resistivity silicon and in the past we have
sourced these from Canberra, but it seems to be a big hassle now - maybe
they have to order the low resistivity silicon specially and the sales
volume is real low? I think the doping also has to be pretty homogeneous if
the depletion depth is to be well defined.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else is using this technique, and if so
whether you have recently bought particle detectors with variable depletion
depths? Any info (suppliers, performance etc) would be most helpful.

Thanks in advance

IV
