At Chalk River, we  used Grade HBC boron nitride from Union Carbide for high-temperature ion source insulators. This material is available now from Advanced Ceramics. There are probably other suppliers.

This grade of BN is very soft and easily machined. It is a sponge for moisture, oil and other contaminants, so machining should be done dry and under reasonably clean conditions. You may want to  outgas the fresh parts in a vacuum oven before  installing them in an ion source.
